October 20 — Mexican Senate approves the Digital Economy Law and sends it to the Executive. The Ley de Economía Digital para Pagos Digitales y Electrónicos passed the Senate and was sent to the President. It covers electronic transfers, cards, QR and NFC payments, and introduces the CURP Digital and Expediente Digital Ciudadano as identity mechanisms for digital financial contracting.
Banks and payment providers will face wider adoption of traceable payment channels and digital identity documents. That could give investigators better payment records, but the legislation does not grant private EDD firms access to bank, CURP, or government-held transaction data.
