FATF adopts Mexico’s fifth-round mutual evaluation.
November 2, 2026 · Andreas Olivo

FATF/GAFI adopted the Mexico report following its October plenary. The assessment covers both technical compliance and the effectiveness of Mexico’s measures against money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing. The report will be published in December after a quality-and-consistency review. Under FATF’s new methodology, Mexico will receive a time-bound roadmap of key actions to complete within three years.
Mexico does not appear on FATF’s October 30 list of jurisdictions under increased monitoring. FinCEN’s corresponding notice to U.S. financial institutions likewise does not identify Mexico as a listed jurisdiction. This means banks should not apply a blanket “grey-list” characterization to Mexico.
The December report is likely to shape correspondent-banking reviews, Mexican supervisory priorities, and institutional risk assessments. No conclusions about Mexico’s new ratings or specific deficiencies can yet be verified; the ratings currently displayed on FATF’s Mexico page belong to the previous evaluation cycle.
